Now I don’t want to barge in here with a list of excuses concerning my absence. Truth is I started working last week. This summer is the last I’ll be able to benefit from working as a student and so I sought and found! The obvious upside is the money I’ll be collecting within 3 weeks. The downside is my schedule… My hours are: 4:20 - 12:26. That means very little sleep, getting up at night and being pretty tired when coming home.
I didn’t have that much energy nor stories to share. The weekend, however, is our saviour.
Now the music-side of it all. You’ve probably seen (maybe even heard) the audio I attached. This is a snippet from a new song (temporarily) titled: “Happy Trails”. A while back I wrote a themesong for the documentary: "For This Is My Blood". How did I get wheeled in for that one? Well, I simply got asked by Roland Javornik, the director. He first approached me to ask if I’d be willing to write a themesong. I was psyched and I immediately started writing. I guess he was pretty satisfied ‘cause when I played him a my tries, he suggested I’d write more soundscapes to accompany his visuals. It was a really nice experience, had lots of fun doing it and am not afraid of keep on doing this kind of stuff. It’s another kind of writing but the same amount of excitement and good times. I’ll add some more snippets later. You could also check out the trailer or kindly ask Mr. Javornik for a copy of his documentary. (He’s currently working on international versions so…)
Lastly I’ll tell a bit more on the progress made with my ‘new album’. I’m doing all kinds of stuff at the same time actually. In a last post I said I was organising all of the ideas and already written songs. Just to give you an idea of how much Ideas and new songs I have: I’m STILL organising. Of course during this process I’m playing around with what I wrote before. I’m glad I can do it this way. It’s a pretty inspiring approach. This way I can really feel everything coming together in a flow. That’s rather important I feel.
I’ve been playing around on my electric guitar the last couple of days because my acoustic (and main) guitar was in repair. No severe damage or anything, just a check-up and little maintenance. The electric guitar-playing really opened my eyes (well, actually ears) again. The last year I’ve mostly been inspired by acoustic guitar players. Now I went back and forth between a bunch of my electric guitar heroes again. It made me realise I lost a bit of my skills. I’m not experiencing this as a negative thing though. Now I can focus on some new stuff and really polish the skills I learned before. Somehow I also love all of the music theory I’m sinking my teeth in! Never before was I this wild with progress and all.
Well, this was a big chunk of info! But as I said, it’s been a few days since I last posted anything, so this was due!
(ps: The themesong for the documentary is also titled: “For This Is My Blood”. It will be uploaded on myspace and probably added as a bonus track with the digital release of my EP: “A World Not Knowing”.)
Started organising the past 3 to 4 years in written music. Got a bucketload of stuff I even forgot about. Really looking forward to getting the new stuff done! Feels like I’ve changed humongously, so has my approach to writing (and arranging). Tomorrow more digging and probably further outlining of new ideas.
It’s now 1:45 am and It’s about time I catch some z’s!
There’s lot of neat stuff to come! This was just a nightly update to show off my sleepy-typing skills ;)
(edit: it just turned 1:59 due to probs with IT… Well, should be fine now.)
